Closed training session for MHA members and invited guests.

MHA Data Services has been working hard to bring new and needed functionality to Data Koala in 2014. New features like mass editing and drilldown research have been combined with familiar functionality like utilization, demographic, mapping, and supply / need reports to enhance Data Koala.

The healthcare world is changing every day and the MIDB / MODB are no different. Data Services has developed a new DMS-10 format that hospital programming staff are currently testing until January 2015. This format change allows for hospitals to send more data and expand the MODB. ICD-10 is looming large in the near future and will cause changes in both the MIDB and MODB. Marketers and planners will need to redefine reports, UDFs, and filters. Our staff will detail this new format, ICD-10 and the effects they will have on the way you work.

Finally, we will discuss the new reports, features, and functions in Data Koala and how to effectively utilize them. We realize your time is more valuable than ever, but some effective training now will pay off in time saved later. Please join us on November 7 for an hour of training and preparation.

Why do Doctors still carry pagers? ( 9:15)
Blake McKinney, MD
Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer
CirrusMD, Inc

Dr. McKinney will unpack the psychology behind why physicians communicate the way they do.  His discussion will center around the dimensionality that smartphones add to a medical conversation, the fee-for-access economic model that will change the way physicians confer value to their patients and implications for chronic disease management as well as remote acute care.

Trends in TraDigital: Life at the Intersection of Traditional and New Media (10:45)
Dan Miers
Chief Strategy Officer
SPM Marketing & Communications

While every new media has predicted the death of all that came before it, in fact each media revolution has both built upon what had been learned from the established platforms and compelled those entrenched media to evolve and change. Digital media is certainly all the rage and unlocking a world of amazing possibilities. In this session we will explore trends and successful uses of digital tactics and the medium in which they live. More significantly though, we’ll also look at the ways established media are learning from their digital counterparts; morphing, adapting and intertwining based on their unique advantages, capabilities and consumer uses. It is this integrated—TraDigital—space that holds the most power for healthcare communicators. We’ll consider:

  • Tools – Content, display, social media, search marketing & contextual advertising
  • Platforms – Desktop, tablet, mobile & wearables
  • Planning, Buying and Monitoring Digital Media
  • New Roles for “Old” Media
  • Offline-Online Integration
MSHPM Annual Meeting (12:15)

Members will be asked to vote for new board members including the positions of President, Vice-President and Members at Large.

Discover what is shaping excellence in patient experience and learn fundamental ideas to create market distinction. The reality we face is that the traditional paths to care are being replaced with the choices of patients and families we serve and these decisions are driven by the very choices individuals in our healthcare organizations make at every point of interaction every day. The implication – a return to fundamentals that will support the best in experience, market distinction and positive outcomes.
